Hometown Book Signing

Susan Rutledge returned to her hometown of Ponca City, Oklahoma for a book-signing at a local bookstore and to share Barely a Bunny with students in an assembly at Woodlands Elementary School, the school Susan attended as a child.

One of the highlights of the trip for Susan was presenting her first grade teacher Marcia (Glass) Nelson with a signed copy of her book. “Miss Glass was the one who taught me how to read and write,” Rutledge explained. “It all began with her! She was one of the best teachers I ever had.”

Following an assembly before the entire student body where Susan read her book and spoke to the boys and girls about bullying, she shared with 3rd-5th graders in break-out sessions about the book-writing process, challenging them to become writers. Boys and girls were fascinated to see the original black and white line drawings created by the illustrator, before the pages were colorized.
